Bendigo Harness Racing Club, Chief Executive Officer, David Aldred is currently one of Australia's longest serving horse racing administrators.
Mr Aldred started his versatile and distinguished racing, sport and media career in Mackay in 1980 and has had a lifetime involvement in racing. He started going to the races before he started school and owned his first racehorse, a thoroughbred when he was a teen. His broadcasting and administration career in racing started in Queensland and has taken him around the world and to leadership in racing at its highest level. His positions have included the Executive Director of Harness Racing British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada), Director the Australian Thoroughbred Racing Board (ARB), Director the Teletheatre Board (Sky TAB equivalent) in British Columbia (Canada), Director Greener Pastures in British Columbia (Canada), Chief Executive Officer for Thoroughbred Racing in the Northern Territory (Darwin); Chief Executive Officer for Thoroughbred Racing Sunshine Coast (Queensland); Board Member Tourism, Sunshine Coast, Board Member North Queensland Games, General Manager Penrith Harness Racing, Chief Executive Officer for the 2006 Inter Dominion Pacing Championships in Hobart (Tasmania), General Manager of Tote Sport Radio National Racing Radio Network (Tasmania), State Manager for Racing, Events and Media (Thoroughbred, Harness & Greyhound Racing) in Tasmania and Chief Executive Officer of Harness Racing in South Australia. He has also been an invited speaker for thoroughbred racing in Bangkok (Thailand), harness racing in Montreal (Canada), horse racing codes and sports awards nights in Australia and at future direction and wagering conferences both in Australia and overseas. Mr Aldred is also a multi award winning racing sportswriter and broadcaster and has led many of his race clubs to award winning success. As a broadcaster, sportswriter and editor, he has covered the cream of Australian and overseas thoroughbred racing and major harness racing events both in Australia and Canada including print media and live radio broadcasts trackside at the VRC Melbourne Cup. He is a published writer with his contributions included in Class Racehorses of Australia and New Zealand and he has called racing for each of the three codes around Australia on Sky Racing and the National Racing Radio Network as well as overseas in North America. His skills also extend to sports broadcasting and he has commentated for radio on Rugby League football for the NRL in Australia and New Zealand including NRL grand finals from the Sydney Football Stadium, State of Origin and Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Foley Shield north Queensland and Queensland Golf, Basketball, Lawn Bowls and BMX Racing Championships for television. Mr Aldred has produced and presented television and radio shows during his career which have included the long running Queensland sport shows Sport Report and Sports Action, the award winning Racing NT (Darwin), Backstretch Minute (Vancouver, Canada) and Mobile Rolling Harness Racing TV (South Australia) and Radio shows. Mr Aldred is the winner of the 1999 Australian Institute of Management - Sunshine Coast (Queensland) "Manager of the Year" Award in addition to the Sydney Turf Club (NSW) Golden Slipper Media Award (Best Golden Slipper coverage by print media) in 1991. Since 1999, Mr Aldred has been an appointed Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. He is also currently on the Board of the Harness Racing Training Centre (Bendigo) and a Director and Secretary of the Lord's Raceway Committee of Management (Lord's Raceway), Bendigo. RELATED PRESS |
