Bendigo Harness Racing Club boss to take up leadership position with Racing Queensland
20 June 2014 - Bendigo Harness Racing Club president Dennis
Bice today announced that the Club’s General Manager, David Aldred will be
leaving Bendigo to take up a new role with Racing Queensland in August.
Mr Aldred who has been at the helm of the Club for four years, will manage the operations of Racing Queensland’s harness racing industry. Mr Bice said that the BHRC committee were very pleased with the way the Club has moved forward under David’s leadership and that it was a disappointment to lose him from Bendigo. “It is very disappointing to lose David from our Club and harness racing in Victoria as he has achieved a great deal in setting the framework and direction for the Bendigo Harness Racing Club,” Club president Dennis Bice said.
“Under David's guidance and leadership we have achieved a number of milestones and have been recognised for those at Industry awards nights. None more prominent than the Bendigo Harness Racing Club winning the ‘Victorian Club of the Year in 2012’ for the first time, as well as several other Industry Awards for media and promotions including the successful Race for Fun Club promotions in conjunction with the Bendigo Advertiser and a national award for best social and digital media last year. David's dedication, hard working approach and leadership have set the benchmark for us moving forward and I can understand why a body such as Racing Queensland have sought out his experience and expertise. We all at Bendigo wish David and his wife Deb all the very best in this new position.”
Mr Bice said that the BHRC Committee will now look at working with the Country Clubs Association and Harness Racing Victoria in its search for a new General Manager.
Mr Aldred said he has enjoyed the last four years working with the BHRC. “It’s been an interesting change with different challenges in my move from an industry leadership position to a Club management role, but it’s been one that I have enjoyed and that has allowed me to fully appreciate how tough the day to day running of Club operations in this industry can be,” Mr Aldred said. “I am optimistic about the Bendigo club’s future, there is still a lot to be done but if everyone remains focused on the goal posts the scoreboard will eventually light up. The Club committee has the vision and a desire to succeed and there are projects underway which they are currently driving. I can see positive times ahead. It’s also a milestone year for the BHRC with the 60th Anniversary of the track taking place in November, the Bendigo Oktoberfest is on again at Lord’s Raceway in October and planning is well underway for that, and of course the 51st Bendigo Pacing Cup is on in January, I’m certain that the Club is going to have a winning year.” Mr Aldred will depart the Club at the end of July to return to his native Queensland where he started his career in racing more than 34 years ago.
