19 July 2012 - World’s Best Hoof Oil, a locally-owned and operated business in Longlea, near Bendigo can probably lay claim to being one of the Australian horse racing industry’s biggest exporters with their products now shipped to 63 countries worldwide.
This month the makers of the popular equine hoof oil broke into previously uncharted horse racing territory when they started distributing their products into Iceland, yes Iceland. The World’s Best Hoof Oil is destined to be sold to the country’s equestrian and racing stables including stables racing Icelandic pacers.
Iceland, a Nordic European island country in the confluence of the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean has a population of about 320,000 and is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The capital city of Iceland, Reykjavik is where Bendigo husband and wife team Bruce and Margaret Dalton recently distributed over $30,000 worth of their stock to equine enthusiasts.
World’s Best Hoof Oil now has agencies, wholesalers and resellers distributing the locally made hoof oil and other products into Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, United States of America, Mexico, Caribbean, United Kingdom, Middle East, Asia, New Zealand, Pacific islands and throughout Australia. Bruce Dalton was stunned when he got the order from Iceland for their product. “It’s amazing and even more interesting is the number of horses, even racehorses that there are in Reykjavik,” he said. “There is an equine population of about 70,000 in the regions around Iceland’s capital city alone.”
In addition to the standard walk, trot and canter, the Icelandic horse, known as the “Polar Horse” has the ability to tolt, a “running walk” similar to the gait found in the American Saddlebred, Paso Fino and Tennessee Walker breeds. Some polar horses are also bred for a special "flying pace" or skold, which is a very fast lateral gait used for racing short distances. These diminutive, sure-footed, stocky horses are ridden under saddle and can reach speeds up to 48 kilometres an hour using this pace.
World’s Best Hoof Oil is a major sponsor of harness racing in Bendigo, sponsoring prizes to every race winner at every race meeting held at Lord’s Raceway. The company also sponsors the popular Race For Fun Club with the hoof treatments for charity filly Addy aka Spirit Of Bendigo part of their sponsorship and is a sponsor of the Harness Racing Industry Training Centre in Bendigo.
