Bendigo's Si Capisco wins the Mildura Trot Cup
Si Capisco
13 April 2012 - Bendigo-trained trotter Si Capisco scored a dominant 45 metre win in this week's Mildura Trotters Cup. The Alan McIntosh trained Sundon gelding was driven by Bendigo ace Daryl Douglas and led his opponents a merry chase. Having just his third start for McIntosh, the victory was one of Si Capisco's best in his 88 start career and was the trotters first win in almost 10 months. Douglas was able to get Si Capisco motoring early with a 20 metre break on the second horse inside the first 400 metres. The driver had the squaregaiter nicely balanced throughout the race and with the flying start he made the backmarkers chase him down. Si Capisco raced around the final turn 25 metres clear of the chasers after a 30 second, third quarter of the last mile and then powered to the finish in 29.6 seconds giving those behind him no hope of making ground. The winning mile rate of 2:03.3 over the marathon 2600 metres is Si Capisco top mark. South Australian Herecomes The Cat, trained by Kapunda's Marcus Hearle finished second 44.6 metres from the winner with another Bendigonian, Barneys Invasion (Paul Morrissey) placing third a further two metres away. Si Capisco entered McIntosh's stable after this year's Boort Cup. He finished third at his first performance for his new stable in the Gunbower Cup, then put himself out of contention galloping at his next start at Kilmore before rewarding the McIntosh family's confidence in him on Thursday. - David Aldred
