6 April 2012 - Jodi Quinlan couldn’t be happier with her two-year-old filly Getya Wings Out ahead of Saturday night’s heats of the Australian Pacing Gold series. But the Parwan trainer-driver doubts her daughter of Mach Three, who powered home on debut for a strong win in Geelong, can topple the unbeaten Courageousnquick on Saturday night. A candid Quinlan admitted defeating the daughter of Courage Under Fire, who has won her first three starts in commanding fashion for Melton trainer Brent Lilley, would be tough and said the biggest aim was to simply qualify for the APG semi-finals by running a place.
“The biggest aim is to qualify, so if we can run second or third that’d be great,” said Quinlan. “This is as massive step up in grade for her.”
But Quinlan is pleased with how Getya Wings Out is coming along, saying there was much improvement in her and she would end up “a better three-year-old”. “She’s still growing,” Quinlan said. “It’s going to be a hard task on Saturday night because we’ve drawn the toughest heat, and Courageousnquick will just roll to the lead from three and be very hard to beat.” Four heats of the Australian Pacing Gold series for two-year-old fillies will be contested at Bendigo. The first heats of the series kicked off at Albion Park in Queensland on April 3, and after Bendigo the series heads to Menangle on Tuesday. Semi-finals will be run at Melton’s Tabcorp Park on April 20, with a $307,000 final to be contested at Melton on April 27. Harness fans are in for a huge evening of racing on Easter Saturday, with an enormous 12-event program scheduled to be contested on a choc-a-bloc card. The action gets under way at 5.35pm with the Bendigo Advertiser Community Cup Trot.
