Presidents Message
James Hitchcock, a guest speaker at the AGM
Welcome everyone to the December edition of "In the Sprint Lane" , it’s hard to believe the year is almost over. Since our last newsletter we have held our Annual General Meeting and I’m pleased to say a good number of members turned out to listen to our guest speakers in James Hitchcock Chairman of Stewards at HRV and our newly appointed General Manager David Aldred . Committee elections took place and I’m pleased to say that Peter Svanosio & Dean Goodridge were returned and we welcome our newly appointed committeeman in Joe Page. Take a look at this month’s personality profile on Joe to get to know a little about him. On behalf of everyone at the club we congratulate Joe and look forward to his contribution to the BHRC committee. It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the contribution of outgoing committeeman Paul Graydon for his service to the club. An outstanding contribution in many ways and we look forward to seeing Paul back at the track shortly.
This time of the year is particularly exciting in the racing program and our club has a lot to look forward to. In particular our recent announcement that PETstock will be our new Group 1 Bendigo Pacing Cup sponsor and partner for the next three years. This is a significant win for our club and I am extremely grateful to have Chris and his team on board to promote and develop our Cup as a leading event on the harness racing calendar. Don’t miss out on what should be a great night of racing on January 15th, get in early as we are expecting a terrific crowd and a top field of pacers. Our other feature will also be the running of the Group 3 Aldebaran Park "Maori Mile" for Trotters which will no doubt see a talented group of trotters contest this event. Thanks to Aldebaran Park for their continued support of this event.
January 27th will also see the running of the Central Victorian Pacers & Trotters series Finals at Bendigo, two well sort after events on all the trainers calenders. Follow that up with our meeting to be held at TABCORP Park Melton on February 11th and to finish off our Community Cup night on February 26th which will also feature our $15,000 Stallion Station Bendigo Trotters Cup, you are guaranteed of two months of exciting harness racing. Our club is aiming to have a bus going down to Melton on February 11th as well as dining packages that will be available so get in early and contact David or Kelly at the club to book your place.
Our club continues to be involved in the realignment of the Country Clubs Association and the implementation of a strategic plan that was adopted at the recent Country Clubs AGM in November. I’m confident with the new structure the Country Clubs will continue to work on the development, profile and sustainability of country harness racing in conjunction with HRV. This is an important time and our club will actively participate in this process.
On Thursday the 16th December we held a very successful XMAS meeting thoroughly enjoyed by a large crowd on a fantastic Bendigo evening. It was great to see a full house in the restaurant, Marquees up on the lawn and our major sponsors being entertained in the committee room. Entertainment with "Sing Australia Bendigo" putting everyone in the XMAS spirit, plenty of activities for the kids including two bikes donated by our fabulous Ladies Committee which were given away to a lucky girl & boy. The night had a real buzz about it and it was great to see Santa arrive in a sulky up the straight for the kids. Well done to everyone on a great night.
Finally, on behalf of the Bendigo Harness Racing Club I would like to wish everyone a very merry and safe XMAS and a successful 2011. Thank you for your continued support.
See you at the track.
