Mini marvel Martine wins the Ted Manton Memorial Pony Trot at Lord's Raceway
Brock Gibson steers Martine to victory at Lords Raceway
26 November 2011 - One of the youngest and smallest pony trotting competitors in Victoria, Brock Gibson stole the show at Bendigo on Saturday night winning the Ted Manton Memorial Pony Trot (600m). Brock and his pony, Martine dominated in both races run clearly winning the first race before clearing out to an easy score in the feature event. Eleven ponies competed at Bendigo in front of a big crowd at the Strath Village Shopping Centre sponsored race night. The Pony Trotting races were proudly supported by the Manton family and Horseland Bendigo. Darren, Debbie, Ashley and Joseph Manton were on track to present the trophies and medals to the race winners and competitors. Joseph drove last year's Pony Trot Champion Black Pete in the two races. The competitors in the Ted Manton Memorial Trot were: Alexandra Marshall (Shunusti Freda); Brock Gibson (Martine); Georgia Vozlic (Matey); Kelsea Nisbit (Princess Roxy); Monique Pell (Pink Princess); Kayla Blazko (Pixie); Stacey Vassallo (Boots), Hayely Douglas (Sexy Rexy); Joseph Manton (Black Pete) Laura Douglas (Angelica) and Brandon Warren (Franklin).

Elmore Fun Day for Pony Trot Kids Kayla Blazko from Carisbrook on the chestnut pony
17 May 2011 - The photos say it all - It was a real fun day at Elmore for Victoria's Pony Trot families.

Black Pete the 2011 Pony Trot Champion Joseph Manton with Bruce Barron and Andrea Parks
12 May 2011 - Black Pete is the Pony of the Year for 2011, driven by young Bendigo driver 12 year old Joseph Manton.
Black Pete started his racing in 2005. After being bought from Peter Collins of Kerang he was broken to harness and sulky by Joseph’s late grandfather Ted Manton together with a young student from the Bendigo Harness School Sean Raines. Sean trained the pony for 8 weeks and Ashley Manton who has now progessed from the Pony Trots to the licensed driving ranks, drove him in his first race and won the Redwood Pony Trot at Maryborough, this meant a lot to Ted who was unable to attend because of illness and Sean deputised for Ted. With both Ashley and Joseph at the reins over the years, Black Pete has competed in many Country cups and with a fine collection of 10 titles under his belt including the 2009 State Finals and 2010 Ballarat Cup. Black Pete and Joseph were invited to the Inter Dominion in 2010 at Menangle, but Black Pete did not travel very well, and on returning home he got very ill and nearly died. With a lot of love and care from the Manton family he recovered and in 2011 has raced very well with another successful year with his most recent win the Gunbower Cup. Joseph has driven and trained his ponies since he was 6 years of age. |
Stacey scores her maiden driving win in the Bendigo Pony Trot Cup Bendigo Pony Trot Cup winner Stacey Vassallo
1 March 2011 - 12 year-old Melton schoolgirl Stacey Vassallo has won the Bendigo Pony Trot Cup, her first victory ever as a Pony Trot driver. Bendigo Harness Racing Club hosted the Bendigo Harness Racing Training Centre Pony Trot Cup on Saturday night at Lords Raceway. Stacey drove her pony Boots to victory in the 600 metre Cup Final. From a non-racing family Stacey became interested in the Pony Trots about two years ago but its taken her sometime to get her pony Boots going. It all came together in the Bendigo Cup event. Pony Trots Victoria coordinator Andrea Parkes said she was delighted for Stacey. "She got introduced to the Pony Trots through a school friend and it was great to see her finally win and win the trophy for the Bendigo Pony Cup," Ms Parkes said.
